MANILA – Elections Chief Andy Bautista, whose wealth has been addressed by his own wife, was in tears when he tended to his supporters during the Commission on Elections flag ceremony Monday morning.

In a emotional address, Bautista expressed gratitude toward Comelec representatives for demonstrating their help in the midst of the crisis he faces.

“Hindi naman mahirap na ibigay ang position or bumaba sa position. Hindi problem ‘yun e. Ang problema ko talaga ay mawala ang Comelec family sa aking buhay,” he said.

Bautista said he has officially looked for direction from Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, who is among the general population who indicated support for him.


The Comelec chief said a ton of interests are in question in the allegation against him.

Comelec employees have been showing their support for the embattled poll chief since last week. Some wore white shirts saying, “Chairman, nandito lang kami.”

“We all know chairman to be a decent individual. And not just a decent individual personally but more so as a public official,” said Jonathan Ibañez, a Comelec employee.

Bautista’s wife, Patricia, previously bared documents supposedly showing the Comelec chief’s unexplained wealth. Bautista, for his part, denied the allegations, saying the documents are fake.

The poll chief has already filed cybercrime charges against his estranged wife, her lawyer Lorna Kapunan and other John Does for allegedly accessing his emails.

The Department of Justice said that a probe on the unexplained wealth of Bautista is underway with the Bureau of Internal Revenue joining the investigation.
